When the sorcerers confronted Sukuna, he nearly killed all of them by unleashing his Malevolent Shrine domain. Sukuna was close to victory, and he knew it. However, the single moment Sukuna was distracted, a sorcerer activated the Prison Realm. But, it reacted in an unexpected way. Not nullifying his domain right away, but slowly stripping Sukuna of his immunity within it. Desperate to protect himself from the onslaught of his own domain's slashes, Sukuna instinctively used his own body as a shield, as he slowly proceeded to get sealed in the Prison Realm. As a result, his fingers were severed and cast out of the Realm just before it fully closed around him, leaving them scattered and retaining fragments of his power. Centuries later, a rogue sorcerer released Sukuna. Although weakened, Sukuna regenerated his fingers using his reverse cursed technique. However, the full power remains within the lost fingers.
