Global Indigenous Liberation Discussion (GILD)

The Global Indigenous Liberation Discussion Group, abbreviated as GILD, is a group for discussing world indigenous and diaspora issues. For the sake of clarity, “indigenous” in this context is being defined as all peoples with ethnic, racial, and/or cultural heritage which have been adversely impacted by colonization. Many people in this group may not identify with the term “indigenous,” but any who resonate with this definition are welcome here. We believe that everyone has indigenous origins, although some people, groups, movements, and ideologies are more instrumentally complacent in the implementation of colonist measures. The Global Indigenous Liberation Discussion Group seeks to deconstruct and abolish settler values, no matter who or where they come from. Anyone with ancestral connections to imperialism has the right to connect with their pre-imperial ancestry, post-colonial ideology and the like, although this group seeks to hold those with imperial and colonial inclinations accountable, whether they are in the process of unlearning such behaviors or not. This group seeks to dismantle settler values, such as anthropocentricism, unethical hierarchies, capitalism, unsustainable industrialism, and complacency. The Global Indigenous Liberation Discussion Group is not only for discussing postcolonial theory and indigenous/diaspora issues. Our primary goal is to discuss and celebrate the present and future survival and prosperity of all indigenous peoples and traditions. We are here to empower and uplift each other in the fight against colonial values, capitalism, and oppression. Empowerment can look like many things. Feel free to joke around, unapologetically be yourself. Allow yourself and others grace to not be perfect. Do your best to your own ability.
