OpenApoc is an open source clone of X-COM: Apocalypse that requires the original files to run, licensed under the GPL3 license and written in C++/SDL2. PmProg was founded in July 2014 and has since grown into a community. OpenApoc is in alpha build (meaning it's playable, but not all features are implemented) (06.2023) The project always needs active programmers!
